Top 10 Worst Movie Sequels

In the movie industry, there comes a time in every writer’s life where they might think that a sequel is going to give them a lot more money. In many cases, this does work, but there are many who fail at the attempt of making successful sequels. Such is the following list. Here you have movies that did really well in the Box Office and when they decided to make a sequel, they bombed. Here is a list of the top 10 worst movie sequels of all time

10. Basic Instinct 2 (2006)

basic instinct 2

Making $5.9 Million in the theaters compared to the $118 Million it made in the theaters back in the 90’s is the worst flop in history almost. Clearly the 14 years older Sharon Stone didn’t intrigue audiences’ private areas as much as the first installment did. The role was no longer seductive and came off as a sad woman who was trying to not hide that she isn’t the way she used to be.

9. Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde (2003)

This is not really a movie that bombed per say. However, it was one that shouldn’t have been made. Making $90 Million in theaters compared to the $96 Million that the fist one made, it was unnecessary to do another one. This was like if they made another “Clueless”. One time is enough of hearing the ditsy blonde stereotypes squealing. However, many felt that it wasn’t a bad movie to watch them in their skimpy clothing.

8. Son of the Mask (2005)

Making $17 Million in theaters compared to the $120 Million the first movie made, the first mistake they made was replacing Jim Carrey. Jamie Kennedy is funny, but his humor was nowhere near the caliber of Jim Carrey’s. There are many things that were wrong with this movie and it should have never been made.

7. A Very Brady Sequel (1996)

a very brady sequel

The first movie was great to have the gang back together again and it made $46.6 Million in the theaters. However, when this piece of garbage hit the theaters it made $21.4 Million. This was disaster from the start. The entire movie was confusing and many will never get over the sort-of incest innuendo that went on between the siblings. Then again it was Marcia. Oh Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!

6. Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo (2005)

Making $22.4 Million in the Box Office is not so bad, but compared to the $65.5 Million that the first part made, it is small peanuts. The problem many had with this film was the lack of story. It seems that Rob Schneider as a male prostitute was one time to many. Overall, the movie had its moments, but it was nowhere near as great as the first one.

5. Garfield: Tale of Two Kitties (2006)

Granted, Bill Murray is a talented actor. However, the role as Garfield was good only one time. This movie got $28.4 Million in the theaters whereas the first one got $75 Million. Still no triple digits, but it was better than the first. This film was simply dull and filled with lame jokes. It is clearly not Bill Murray’s style. Maybe he should have taken a page out of Martin Lawrence’s book when he decided not to do “Open Season” sequels.

4. Blues Brothers 2000 (1998)

blues brothers 2000

Many people want to wipe away their memory with this film. Making $14 Million compared to the $57.2 Million they made with the first movie, Dan Aykroyd failed to interest the audience this time around. With the addition of John Goodman and Joe Morton didn’t help at all and it only made the film less enjoyable with every passing second.

3. Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd (2003)

dumb and dumberer

This bomb was horrible to watch besides the bathroom scene where Lloyd smeared chocolate all over the bathroom. The movie made $26.3 this time around compared to the $127 Million the cult classic film made in the 90’s. Audiences felt that they didn’t need a sequel at all and clearly showed their disgust for the film.

2. Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004)

Many people were kind of excited to have a sequel to Dirty Dancing until they saw it. Making $14.1 Million in theaters compared to the $63.9 Million the first one made was something that many felt was warranted. There are many things that made “Dirty Dancing” the movie that no one should try to remake. The chemistry between actors was not there and it failed on so many levels.

1. Teen Wolf Too (1987)

Making $7.9 Million in the Box Office whereas the first movie made $33 Million, the movie failed to captivate audiences. Many didn’t even know that they made a sequel to this movie because many felt that the first one wasn’t that great either. This was definitely one of the worst movies to hit the big screen.

There you have it! Did your worst film make the cut on the list? There are many more that didn’t make the list, but are just as bad. It is not like they expected them to flop because it is clear that some time and work went into trying to make the movie fun. However, it turned out to be a big mistake in the end.
